Our Team

We offer a comprehensive service that covers all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology. Specific areas of interest include the management of inflammatory bowel diseases and chronic liver disease.

Dr James Fon
BSc. MBBS, FRACP

Dr Fon is a consultant gastroenterologist with the Gastroenterology SA team.

  • Dr Fon holds a staff specialist position at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He has accreditation to perform gastroscopy and colonoscopy at Calvary Wakefield Hospital, Calvary North Adelaide Hospital, North Eastern Community Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

    Dr Fon has a particular interest in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). He undertook post fellowship training at the world-renowned IBD unit at New York’s prestigious Mt Sinai Hospital. There, he worked alongside world leaders in the treatment of IBD and gained invaluable experience. He currently oversees the IBD Unit at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and is actively involved in research.

    Dr Fon graduated from the University of Adelaide in 2002. He completed his gastroenterology training at The Queen Elizabeth and Royal Adelaide hospitals. In 2010, he was awarded his fellowship in gastroenterology from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

    Dr Fon remains passionate about the next generation of doctors. He holds a position as a clinical lecturer at The University of Adelaide.

Dr It Wen (Yvonne) Low
MBChB, FRACP

Dr Low is a consultant gastroenterologist with the Gastroenterology SA team.

  • Dr Low is accredited to perform gastroscopies, colonoscopies and FibroScan® and is currently undertaking further training in the latest technique of Capsule Endoscopy. She performs procedures at Calvary North Adelaide Hospital, Calvary Wakefield Hospital, Calvary Central Districts Hospital and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

    Dr Low has a particular interest and expertise in the management of chronic liver diseases.

    Dr Low graduated from the University of Auckland in 2007. She undertook her gastroenterology training at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Royal Adelaide Hospital, and was awarded her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2015.

    Dr Low completed further training at the Royal Darwin Hospital in 2015, where she gained further experience in both general gastroenterology and liver disease.

    Dr Low currently provides her expertise to the Gastroenterology Unit at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

    Dr Low is fluent in both English and Chinese, and is happy to consult in Chinese. She is known for her empathetic and professional approach.

Dr James Hunt
BSc. MBBS, FRACP

Dr Hunt is a consultant gastroenterologist with the Gastroenterology SA team.

  • Dr Hunt has held a staff position at SALHN since 2017. He has a particular interest in swallowing disorders, endoscopy / colonoscopy and therapeutic endoscopy. Some of Dr Hunt's strengths are; good endoscopic technique, esophageal manometry, capsule endoscopy and explanation of concepts.

    Dr Hunt graduated Medicine by Flinders University in 2007 and was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2013. He completed additional training in esophageal disorders (manometry) in 2014.

    He has accreditation to perform gastroscopy and colonoscopy at Calvary North Adelaide and Wakefield, Glenelg community hospital, Flinders private hospital and SALHN public hospitals.

Ms Louise Mudge
BSc (Hons). MND, APD

Louise is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with over 17 years of clinical experience

  • Working both in private practice as well as her previous role as the Senior Dietitian for Digestive Diseases, Royal Adelaide Hospital.

    Louise has extensive expertise in the dietary management of gastrointestinal diseases including:

    GORD, achalasia and motility disorders

    Gastric and Oesophageal cancer

    Pancreatic and Liver Disease

    Coeliac Disease

    Lactose and Fructose Intolerance

    Inflammatory Bowel Disease

    Louise has considerable experience in the use of the Low FODMAP diet in management of IBS and functional dyspepsia. She guides in adherence to a strict Low FODMAP Diet, followed by a challenge phase aiming to liberalise the client’s diet in the long-term

    Louise is particularly passionate about assisting with weight reduction using individually tailored meal plans and where appropriate, Very Low Calorie Diets. She can assist with the dietary management of clients with hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, PCOS, NAFLD and those needing to lose weight prior to surgery.
